Yields 3 cups

1 15-oz. can garbanzo beans, rinsed and drained
2 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. minced garlic
½ cup chopped onion
1 avocado, peeled, seeded and chopped
1 4.5-oz. can chopped green chiles, drained
1 jalapeno, seeded and minced
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 cup seeded, chopped tomato

  1. Place the beans, lemon juice and garlic in a food processor and process for 20 seconds, pausing to scrape down sides as needed. Add the rest of the ingredients except the tomatoes and pulse at least 8 times to roughly combine to a chunky consistency.
  2. Place the mixture in a medium bowl and add the tomatoes. Fold together until well combined. Serve with baked tortilla chips, baked pita wedges or bagel chips.
