Mostaccioli with Meat Sauce
1 pound hamburger meat
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons cooking oil
3 1/2 cups canned diced tomatoes
1 cup tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 pound pepperoni, sliced
1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced or (1/2 cup canned mushrooms)
In a large skillet brown the hamburger meat, drain. in the same skillet, cook the onion and the garlic in the cooking oil until tender. add the diced tomatoes, the tomato sauce, the tomato paste, salt and the black pepper. simmer covered one hour. add drained cooked hamburger meat, the pepperoni and the mushrooms; continue to cook thirty minutes longer. skim the fat from the top of the skillet from the pepperoni.
cook the mostaccioli until tender in salted boiling water. drain.
toss the pasta with the meat sauce. serve with grated parmesan cheese. makes 8 to 10 servings.
*Note: if you cannot find the mostaccioli pasta, use elbow macaroni.
