This is not your usual “Gift Jar Recipe” but would still make a wonderful gift and may be given at any time of the year!
This recipe makes about 2 cups and is nice to present in small canning jars or other decorative glass jars.
NOTE: This is to be stored in the refrigerator at all times!
1/3 c. whole mustard seeds
1/3 c. boiling water
1/3 c. dry mustard
1/3 c. warm water
1 c. cider vinegar
1/4 c. dark brown sugar, firmly packed
2 T. flour
1 1/2 t. salt
1 t. onion powder
1/2 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. ground cinnamon
1/4 t. allspice
1/8 t. ground cloves
In small bowl, combine mustard seeds and boiling water.
In separate bowl, mix dry mustard with warm water.
Set both mixtures aside for 10 minutes.
In small saucepan, combine cider vinegar with remaining ingredients; stir in reserved mustard mixtures.
Over medium-high heat, bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
Cook about 2 minutes, until thickened, stirring constantly.
Pour mixture into a small bowl; cover and refrigerate overnight.
The next day, using a wire whisk, beat smooth.
Spoon into containers with tight-fitting lids and store in the refrigerator.
