Old-Fashioned Bread and Egg Dressing

Old-Fashioned Bread and Egg Dressing

(8 servings)

1/4 cup chopped onions
1/4 cup chopped celery
4 tbsp butter or drippings
5 cups stale bread cubes or crumbs
1 hard-cooked egg, chopped
1 tsp mixed herbs (sage, thyme and marjoram)
3/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup giblet stock

Sauté onions and celery in butter until onions are transparent. Mix with bread, hard-cooked egg and seasonings.

Blend the beaten egg with the stock and stir into bread mixture.

Turn into a greased pan and place in oven with turkey about 1 hour before the turkey is done. Bake, uncovered, until the dressing is a deep golden brown. Cut into pieces to serve.
