Oriental-Style Turkey Burgers
1 pound [454 g] extra-lean ground turkey Salt and pepper, to taste Sweet and sour barbecue sauce 4 hamburger buns Stir-fried mixed Oriental vegetable pieces, to taste
Celery slices Green onion slices Sweet red pepper dices, membranes removed and seeded Bean sprouts Preheat oven broiler. Shape ground turkey into 4 balls. Flatten ground turkey balls into patties into a frypan. Over medium heat, brown ground chicken patties for a few minutes on both sides. Salt and pepper patties. Turning patties from time to time, cook patties until well-done, no longer pink inside. Generously brush done chicken patties with sweet and sour barbecue sauce. Cover frypan; cook until hot. Meanwhile, onto a cookie sheet, brown halved hamburger buns under hot preheated oven broiler. Top lower part of hamburger buns with turkey patties, then with mixed Oriental vegetable pieces. Garnish to taste with celery and/or green onion slices, sweet red pepper dices and/or bean sprouts, top with remaining bun halves, and enjoy.
This is a sweet but sour BBQ sauce that goes great on pork, chicken or beef
4 cups ketchup 2 cup water 1 cup apple cider vinegar 1/2 cup light brown sugar 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoons salt 2 tablespoons fresh ground black pepper 2 tablespoons onion powder 2 tablespoons garlic powder 2 tablespoons ground mustard juice and zest of 2 limes (3 if small) 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce In a large saucepan, combine all ingredients. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. Cooked uncovered, stirring frequently, for 2 hours.
