Pumpkin Pie gone wrong

I cooked a pumpkin pie the other day (from scratch). Not too long into cooking, the pie started to boil over. As it continued to cook it continued to boil, and ended up burning on top. The top is black and the rest is a very dark brown. Though it looks burnt it is still the right texture and doesn’t taste burnt. Also the crust is perfect and not burnt.

I did everything exactly the same as i always have, and i was just wondering if anyone could help pinpoint what went wrong with the pie. Its really been bugging me the last few days trying to think of what it could be. So hopefully someone can help me out here. Thanks

It sounds like your oven was too hot and you had too much filling for the size pie.

This is for others that might be pie challenged (not the spam dammer :mrgreen:) . I go to the trouble of baking a homemade pumpkin pie and it doesn’t taste as good as a cheap pie from the supermarket bakery. I think commercial pumpkin pies use much more seasoning than standard home recipes. Anyway, this No-Bake Pumpkin Cheesecake with a graham cracker crust is really good and people ask me for the recipe. I got the recipe from the Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese website. Give it a try. Buy a prepared graham cracker crust, it will still turn out really good.

No Bake Pumpkin Cheesecake

Graham Cracker Crust

1-1/4 cups crushed graham crackers
1/4 cup granulated sugar
6 Tbs softened butter

Mix well and press into bottom and sides of
a 9" pie pan.

Pumpkin Cheesecake filling

1 8oz pk of cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup canned Libby’s Easy Pumpkin Mix (the one with spices added, not solid pack)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 cups Cool Whip Topping (or real whipped cream, but I’m too lazy)

Mix well, cream cheese, pumpkin mix and sugar until smooth.
Fold the cool whip into the pumpkin mixture until well incorporated.
Spoon into prepared 9" graham cracker crust and spread to fill.
Refrigerate at least 2-hours prior to serving.

Serve with whipped cream topping.
