I’ve been looking for years for a ranch dressing that is similar to what they use at Damon’s Restaurant, and also the very different flavor of the Ranch dressing at Outback Steakhouse.
I love making my own dressings, but the only one I’ve ever had a hard time with is Ranch. Does anyone out there know of something half decent?
Please, if it’s a hidden valley knock off, I’d rather not get it.
I’ll swap recipes with anyone who is interested. I’ve got about eight family collections of recipes gathered over 100 years, so if you need something, I might have the answer. (It’s unfortunate that I don’t have salad dressings among my collection.)
There is a great blue cheese dressing, that was a HIT from Paula Deen on the Food Network.
Try it you’ll love it
Blue Cheese Dressing (Strong)
1/2 C. Roquefort cheese, crumbled
3 oz. softened cream cheese
1/2 C. mayonaise
1/2 C sour cream
1 Tbsp Lemon Juice
1 Tbsp Wine Vinegar
In a medium size bowl, cream roquefort and cream cheese until smooth. Mix in the remaining ingredients and blend well. Chill for two hours or more.
Will stay good for 2 weeks in air tight container.
Thick. Makes about 2 cups of dressing
1/3 cup finely minced onion
2 green onions, thinly sliced
1 clove crushed garlic
1 T fresh minced thyme
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup Hellman’s mayonnaise
1/3 cup buttermilk
1 T freshly ground black pepper
Kosher salt to taste
Combine all ingredients with whisk until well blended. Cover and chill at least 5 hours before serving. Great on thick wedges of iceberg lettuce with freshly cracked pepper! :D
More than likley, the flavor you’re wanting isn’t so much ranch but the buttermillk. Try this one. Hope it helps.
Buttermilk Skies Dressing
1 C Buttermilk, Skim or low fat
4 T Mayonnaise, light or regular
½ C light sour cream
1 T white wine *optional
1 T Dijon mustard
1-2 T Finely chopped fresh chives
1-2 T Finely chopped Parsley
Salt and pepper to taste
4-8 oz. Blue cheese may also be used (can also use crumbled feta, minced cucumbers, minced onions)
Combine buttermilk, mayo, sour cream and mustard in a bowl and whisk until creamy and well mixed. Stir in Chives, parsley, salt and pepper and whisk to blend.
Stir in Blue Cheese, using desired amount for your personal taste
Note: Serve this creamy and tasty dressing over your favorite salad or spoon it into a bowl and serve it as a dip for fresh vegetables or a sauce over baked potatoes!
