Shanghai's Red Clam Chowder

4 stalks celery, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 lb smoked slab bacon
2 qts. water
5 large potatoes, cubed
1/4 cup Worchestershire sauce
1/2 - 1 tsp. black pepper
28 oz. canned diced tomatoes
8 oz. tomato paste
1 tsp. beef boullion
8 oz. clam juice
1/2 cup ketchup
8-16 oz. minced clams
Method:
Bring celery, onion and water to a boil. Add cubed potatoes, Worchestershire sauce, pepper, tomatoes, tomato paste, boullion and clam juice. Simmer until potatoes are tender. Taste for seasoning. Add ketchup only if it seems bland. Add clams and simmer until clams are cooked, about 5 minutes. Salt may be added if clams are washed.
