2 lbs. lean beef for stew cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
Cooking oil
2 lbs. small white onions, peeled
1 bay leaf
2 t. salt
1/2 t. cloves
1/4 t. allspice
1/4 t. pepper
1 can (8 oz.) tomato sauce
1/2 c. dry red wine
2 cloves garlic, crushed

Brown meat in oil in large skillet; transfer to crockpot and add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on LOW 8 to 10 hours, or until meat is tender. Serve with noodles, if desired.
