Stop Kidney Disease Before It Starts ( Diabetes )

Your doctor may prescribe medication for your blood pressure, even though it’s only slightly elevated. This makes good sense. High blood glucose combined with high blood pressure increases your risk of getting diabetic kidney disease. Kidney disease can lead to kidney failure and the need for either dialysis or a kidney transplant. Doctors can identify diabetic kidney disease at a very early stage, when small amounts of protein appear in the urine (microalbuminuria). Certain drugs that lower blood pressure, such as ACE inhibitors, also lower microalbuminuria and can slow down the development of kidney disease. A lower-protein diet may also be beneficial in preventing kidney problems.
