Wanted : MCCORMICK Original Chili Seasoning Mix recipe

My brother made some chili the other day and I really liked it. He indicated that one of the things he added was two packets of McCormick’s Original Chili Seasoning Mix.

Does anyone have a “recipe” on what to put together to recreate this mix with home spices without having to buy the packets? It doesn’t matter to me what’s in it (MSG, whatever) as long as I can recreate the flavor. I’m already hooked on McCormick’s spices, so am not trying to avoid the brand… I just don’t see the sense in paying $2 to $3 for something I could make for much less with the same spices and still have the same great flavor. If I don’t have any of the necessary spices, I don’t mind picking them up… I’ll STILL save money in the long run.

Thanks for your help!

I haven’t tasted McCormick’s Original Chili Seasoning Mix. I make my own chili powder, here’s my recipe:

Homemade Medium Hot Chili Powder

5 Tbs ground New Mexico Chili’s
2 Tbs paprika
2 Tbs ground cumin
2 Tbs garlic powder
2 Tbs onion powder
1 tsp Mexican oregano
1/4 to 3/4 tsp cayenne pepper (to taste)

Mix well. Makes about 3/4 cup of chili powder.

For milder chili powder use 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper.
For medium hot chili powder use 3/4 tsp cayenne pepper.

Use as you would any store bought chili powder.

Thanks! I’ll copy those, though in the meantime I’m really looking for how to make that specific packet.

That’s awesome though, thanks!
