Whole Wheat Biscuits

2001 Missouri State Fair - 1st Place winner

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
4 teaspoons Clabber Girl Baking Powder
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup milk

Mixing Instructions:
Sift together flours, sugar, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg and milk; add to the flour mixture. Stir until a stiff dough forms. Turn out on pastry cloth and knead gently. Pat dough into 1/2-inch thickness. Use 2 -inch biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Baking Instructions:
Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes, or until lightly browned.

Makes 1 dozen biscuits
