Barbecue Sauce - from 1945

1 onion
1/4 cup vinegar
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 cup tomato juice
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup catsup
2 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp chili powder
1 Tbsp paprika
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Dice onion. Combine ingredients in a heavy skillet. Cover and simmer 40 minutes. This may be made ahead of time and kept in a covered jar in the refrigerator. Use for barbecued spare ribs, short ribs, frankfurters, hamburgers or canned sugar and luncheon loaf (I think they mean Hormel SPAM or Armour Treet Canned Luncheon meats).
