Butterscotch Cheesecake Bars

Butterscotch Cheesecake Bars

1 (12 ounce) package butterscotch morsels
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/3 cup margarine
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup chopped nuts
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 325. In medium saucepan, melt morsels with margarine and then stir in crumbs and nuts. Press half of the mixture firmly into the bottom of a greased 9 x 13-inch baking pan.

In large mixer bowl beat cream cheese until fluffy, beat in sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract and egg.

Mix well and then pour into prepared pan, top with remaining crumb mixture. Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool to room temperature, chill before cutting into bars.

I don’t do margarine. Will butter work?

Butter will make it better.

I will admit I buy margarine, but not to use as a substitute for butter. I get Best Foods margarine that comes in a tub here. I use it in recipes that call for shortening. It tastes like butter flavored Crisco, but is cheaper.
