Candied Sweet Potatoes

Having a wide array of side dishes at Thanksgiving dinner is always important. Our recipe for Candied Sweet Potatoes will make a wonderful accompaniment to your bird this year. You can even try adding some refreshing orange zest for extra, festive flavoring!

Candied Sweet Potatoes

2 - (16 oz) cans sweet potatoes in heavy syrup
1/3 cup - firmly packed Domino® Light Brown Sugar
2 tablespoons - butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon - grated orange rind
1/4 teaspoon - cinnamon

If desired, substitute 6, fresh, medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch chunks and parboiled for canned sweet potatoes. Also add 1/4 cup water in place of heavy syrup.

Drain sweet potatoes, reserving 1/4 cup of the syrup. In large skillet, heat brown sugar, butter, orange rind, cinnamon and reserved syrup to boiling. Reduce heat and simmer until slightly thickened, about 1 minute. Add sweet potatoes; heat through, gently stirring to coat potatoes with glaze.

Microwave Directions: Drain sweet potatoes, reserving 1/4 cup of the syrup. In 2-quart microwave-safe dish, place brown sugar, butter, orange rind, cinnamon and reserved syrup. Cook on HIGH 4 minutes until mixture is slightly thickened. Add sweet potatoes, gently stirring to coat with glaze. Cook on HIGH until heated through.
