Cheese, Garlic & Onion Biscuits

1 c flour
1/4 t salt
2 heaping t baking powder
1/4 t cream of tartar
1 T sugar
1 clove garlic, pressed
1/4 c vegetable shortening
1/2 c milk
1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese
2 T melted butter
1/8 t garlic powder
1/2 c green onion, chopped

Combine flour, salt, baking powder, cream of tartar, sugar and pressed garlic in a mixing bowl. Cut in shortening using a pastry blender. Mix milk, then cheese and green onion into mixture with a wooden spoon. Drop by large spoonfuls onto greased baking sheet. Bake. Mix melted butter and 1/8 t garlic powder together and brush on warm biscuits as soon as you remove them from the oven. Note: Can also use a mixture of cheeses.
