Chinese Chews

1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup flour
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup chopped walnuts
2 eggs, beaten

Combine sugar, baking powder, salt and flour in a large bowl. Mix well. Add remaining ingredients. Blend well. Spread as thinly as possible in a 9-inch square pan. Bake at 325 degrees F for about 35 minutes.

Cool enough to handle. Cut into squares. You can either leave in squares and sprinkle with confectioners’ sugar or roll each square into a ball, then roll in confectioners’ sugar.

Ingredients
2 large eggs
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour, all-purpose
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup dates chopped
1 cup nuts chopped

Directions
Beat eggs until light.
Add sugar and blend.
Sift together dry ingredients, add to egg mixture.
Stir in dates and nuts.
Spread mixture in well buttered pan and bake in slow oven 300 F. about 20 minutes.
When cool cut into squares and roll in granulated sugar.
