Clay Roaster

I have a roasting size German clay roaster. You are supposed to soak it in water and then roast your beef, turkey, chicken etc. I followed the directions precisely from the web site and my $25.00 roast was ruined beyond any possilble use. I tried to use it for soup and put it in the slow cooker. Tough as leather!! All was wasted. Anyone have any hints?:oops::oops::oops:
