Good Control, Fewer Complications ( Diabetes )

Good Control, Fewer Complications ( Diabetes )

If you have complications like eye disease, improving your blood glucose will help, even though it may not seem like it at first. A major study, the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT), monitored patients with mild diabetic eye disease for years. This research found that diabetic eye disease progressed much more slowly when patients had good blood glucose control.
This is an important reason to strive for excellent blood glucose control, particularly if you have mild to moderate complications of diabetes. Another long-term study, called the United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS), focused on people with type 2 diabetes and found the same beneficial effects of good blood glucose control.
