Grilled Steaks With Tomato Onion Salad

Serves 4

1 red onion , sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
4 strip steaks , about 1 inch thick
Salt and pepper
6 plum tomatoes , cored and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
2 tablespoons capers , rinsed
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar

  1. Brush onion slices with 1 tablespoon oil and grill over hot fire until lightly charred, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to large bowl. Season steaks with salt and pepper and grill over hot fire until well browned and cooked to desired doneness, 4 to 8 minutes per side. Transfer to plate, tent with foil, and let rest 5 minutes.

  2. Add tomatoes, capers, basil, remaining oil, and vinegar to bowl with grilled onions and toss to combine. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer steaks and tomato salad to individual plates. Serve
