Mushroom Jerky
Ingredients:
- 1 lb of mushrooms (such as portobello or shiitake)
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of liquid smoke
- 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions:
-
Preheat your oven to 175°F (80°C).
-
Clean and thinly slice the mushrooms, about 1/8 inch thick. You can use a knife or a mandoline slicer.
-
In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, liquid smoke, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.
-
Add the sliced mushrooms to the bowl and toss until they are evenly coated with the marinade.
-
Let the mushrooms marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours in the refrigerator.
-
Place the marinated mushrooms on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure to leave some space between each slice.
-
Bake the mushroom slices in the oven for 2-3 hours, or until they are dried and crispy. Flip the slices over halfway through to ensure that they dry evenly.
-
Once the mushroom jerky is done, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving or storing.
You can store your mushroom jerky in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Mushroom jerky is a great snack for hiking, road trips, or any time you need a quick and satisfying snack. You can also experiment with different marinades and spices to create your own unique flavor combinations.
