Wanting a recipe for an old fashioned stack cake. My great aunts from the hills of Eastern Kentucky used to make them, freeze them, and sell them as fund raisers for their church. They had about 6 layers of ‘cake’ with filling in between. The cakes were patted out into the pans - a very dense cake. And the filling was like a dark brown spicy applesauce. If it was just cooked apples, they were cooked to death - there were no chunks to bite into.
