KFC Gravy - What the Colonel said about it.

Colonel Sanders sold Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1964 and became a spokesman for the new owners. He was on the Owen Spann talk show on KGO radio, San Francisco, in the 1970’s promoting KFC and he took a few phone calls. When host Owen Spann asked Colonel Sanders how Heublein was doing running KFC, Colonel Sanders said, “They’re doing a good job, but they ruined my gravy, though!”

From Wikipedia:
In 1973, he sued Heublein Inc — then parent company of Kentucky Fried Chicken — over alleged misuse of his image in promoting products he had not helped develop. In 1975, Heublein Inc. unsuccessfully sued Sanders for libel after he publicly referred to their gravy as “sludge” with a “wallpaper taste”.

Col.Harlen Sander was no dummy. When he sold to Heublein, they had agreed to a price then at the last few days before the sale was final, they lowered the price. Col Sander had figured they might pull something like that so he made up a second recipe for Fried Chicken that was very close to his original and that is what he sold to them at the discounted price.
After to deal was done, Col Sanders opened a new chain of Fried Chicken places in Southern Ohio, Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana. He called the new places, “The Col’s Lady” He went back to making the rounds and mixing the spices as he had done for KFC in the begining. He did not hire the General Manager of the old KFCs, Dave Thomas, to run the new places as it is thought he was the reason Heublein lowered the price. The new chicken places made good and closed when both Harlen Sanders and he widow died.

I have checked this out and found the story to be true.

John, why don’t you start your own thread in the proper recipes section and post your recipes there? Your above recipe (copied word for word from the Simply Recipes website) doesn’t have anything to do with the topic in this thread.

If I get a response I will be really surprised.
