Nutmeg Meltaways

1 c. butter (no substitutes) softened
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
3/4 c. ground almonds
1 c. confectioners’ sugar
1 T. ground nutmeg

Cream butter, sugar and vanilla. Gradually add flour and mix well. Stir in almonds. Shape into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 300° for 18-20 minutes or until bottoms are lightly browned. Cool on racks. Combine confectioners’ sugar and nutmeg. Gently roll cooled cookies in sugar mixture.

Yields about 5 dozen.
