Overcoming Obstacles to Get Fit ( Diabetes )

If you are not in good shape, having diabetes can make exercise harder for you, especially when you start a new exercise routine. Researchers believe there is a possibility that diabetes may damage the cells that line the blood vessels, which would mean your blood vessels wouldn’t dilate correctly during exercise.

To get blood to your muscles while you exercise, your blood vessels need to dilate normally. If this doesn’t happen, it may be harder for you to do the same exercise as another person your age or in the same shape as you. This can be frustrating, and may make it difficult for you to keep exercising. Even though it is hard, it’s worth it to make the effort.

Research has shown that exercise lowers blood glucose and cuts down on stress. (If you’re just starting out, you may need to adjust your medication to match these blood glucose changes.) Remember, exercise gets easier the more you do it. Once you get in the swing of things, diabetes should not keep you from meeting your exercise goals.
