Since I live in a humid tropical climate I have problems with these two spices getting rock hard in the jar. How can I prevent this?
Gee, there’s probably a better way than this, but its what I was taught as a kid;
Just put a teaspoon of raw rice in each shaker. The rice helps absorb the moisture.
I know that works for salt, but never thought of it for garlic and onion powder. Thanks for the tip.
I remember seeing soda crackers used in salt, but the rice will not break apart like the crackers can.
Recycle “silica pillows” (aka moisture absorber, dessicant packs) from bottles of supplements and stick them the jars that don’t have the free-flowing agent in them.
I have recently seen this tip posted in one of the sites.
