Question about white sauce for pasta

I’m making a fast lunch of penne pasta and I was thinking about making a white sauce to go with the pasta. I already know how to make a white sauce, but what kind of herbs and spices should I consider adding to the sauce? Also I plan on serving this with some freshly grated parmesan cheese if that helps.
