Raisin Applesauce Cake

1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup canned applesauce
2 cups sifted cake flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp grated orange peel
1 cup seedless raisins
3/4 cup chopped nuts

Cream shortening and sugar together thoroughly. Beat in egg. Blend in applesauce. Resift flour with salt, soda and baking powder. Blend into applesauce mixture. Stir in orange peel, raisins and nuts.

Turn into greased loaf pan (8-1/2 x 4-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches).

Bake in moderate oven (350) for about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Cool in pan. Frost as desired. Makes 1 loaf.
