Lemon Syrup:

  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • Zest of 1 lemon, cut into thin strips

Strawberry Syrup:

  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 pint strawberries, hulled and chopped

Lemonade:

  • 2 cups fresh lemon juice, pulp strained
  • 2 cups cold water
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  1. Make the lemon syrup: In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and lemon zest. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar.

  2. When the sugar is dissolved, remove the pan from the heat and let it cool to room temperature. Remove the strips of lemon zest.

  3. Make the strawberry syrup: Combine the strawberries and sugar in a small bowl. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon, then set it aside for 45 minutes to let the sugar dissolve in the strawberry juice.

  4. Strain the mixture, reserving the berries and juice separately.

  5. Make the lemonade: In a large pitcher, combine the lemon syrup, lemon juice, salt, and cold water.

  6. Fill a tall glass with ice and add a tablespoon of the strawberry syrup. Fill the glass with the lemonade, stir, and add a few of the reserved strawberries

Makes 8 to 10 servings
