Southern Cornbread

1 1/2 cups Self-rising Corn meal
2 Eggs
White Milk or Buttermilk

Pre heat oven to 450 degrees

Mix meal, eggs and milk in bowl. Add milk slowly so as to not get too thin. Usually about 1 1/2 cups whole milk and 1 1/3 cups butter milk

Prepare skillet by pouring vegatable oil ( about 1/4 cup) into skillet and letting the oil get good and hot on top of stove. After oil is hot, sprinkle about 1/4 cup dry meal over bottom of skillet.

Pour mixture in skillet and bake until golden brown.

  • As a snack, there is nothing better than buttered cornbread.
