Toaster Ovens

This is one of the most over-looked kitchen appliances.
Yet, they save every penny ya’ might spend to get one. Nothing beats reheating pizza in a toaster oven.
It always saves to use a toaster oven over your stove, in most uses. No preheating, and just do a small oven instead of a larger one. You’ll save the cost of a toaster oven within 3 years, making it free !
Ever notice how quickly those frozen waffles get cold when heated in a toaster ? Not so in a toaster oven.
They’ll do your toast, and so much more. Like those frozen egg rolls ya’ get at supermarkets. Ya’ nuke for a minute, but then can put them in a toaster oven to get crisp !
Getting a good toaster oven is worth it. Look for double heating elements on both top or bottom, or even better, a ‘W’ heating element.
But here’s the greatest secret. Toaster Ovens are often given as gifts. Yet, since most don’t know their true value, they give them away. Most thrift store have quite a few, and when ya’ see them, you’ll see they are unused.
I got a ‘ToastMaster’ for $15, which I consider the best on the market.
Yet even without my thriftiness (cheapness…LOL), Learning how to use a toaster oven, is well worth even paying retail for one. Splurge on the price, coz a better one is worth it. Learning to use one, is invaluable.

Where I live there is a toaster oven competition, where people make toasted sandwiches as unusual as possible to win.
A friend of mine won by inserting parts of a whole roast dinner (beef, potato, gravy, carrots, peas) into a toasted sandwich.
Sounds vile but apparently was delicious.

Well, it seem things sure have changed in the world of toaster ovens since I got my last one 5 1/2 years ago. No longer do the thrift stores have many for sale.
People have learned the value of a toaster oven in the kitchen, and their versatility.
Mines gotten a bit worn. Sometimes the ‘Toast’ feature sticks, and burns the toast. So I’ve been looking to replace it. The Thrift Stores are a bust for anything really good.
And I can’t believe the number of toaster ovens being offered by Kmart & Wal-mart, etc. They use to have 2-3 to chose from. Now its like 6-7 types.
Yet, I can’t find one with that ‘W’ heating element anymore. Not even Toast Master. Yet too, theres been some new add-ons…hmmm…
I’ll let ya’s know what I pick out.

I had a toaster oven in the US. One of the best things I used it for was salmon steaks; just coarse salt and freshly ground pepper. My sister proclaimed it to be the best tasting salmon she ever ate.

I couldn’t believe it as I shopped around for a new toaster oven. OMG~there’s like a kazillion of em, and some prices as high as $399.
Yet, look as I might, none had the ‘W’ shape heating element that I found superior over other toaster ovens I’d had prior to my Toast Master (not even Toast Master uses the ‘W’ anymore).
And the other feature I wanted was the insulated body made of fiberglass(or some kind of plastic). I knew that metal body toaster ovens get hot, but my plastic(?) clad Toast Master was so well insulated, the top and sides never got hot. Well, couldn’t find anything that wasn’t made of metal.
So anyways, I’ve now got a GE Rotisserie & Convection toaster oven.
The cost was $20 more than the GE model without the convection & rotisserie, so I went for the better. ($49 at Walmart…am I allowed to say that ?..LOL).
I’ve never cooked anything with a rotisserie or a convection oven, so I’m looking forward to trying some new things.

And thank you KW for those two tips. I love doing roasts. And I just bought a 5lb. bag of wings for $5 (yeah, a buck a pound for wings~~~I remember when then could hardly give them away).
And good to know about the breads. Kinda was wondering how convection would affect them.
Thanks…

Hahahaha~This is cute. Dumb covection fan didn’t work, but coz I’d never used convection before, I didn’t realize it. Took like forever to cook 10 wings.
Anyways, did an exchange, hope this one works right. Will find out tommorow. Coz even tho those wings took awhile, they sure were good. Gotta have some more tommorow.
